Sept 2015 Teacher Subject Specialism Training programme
I wrote to you in early December to advise you of the announcement by the Prime Minister of a significant programme of work to focus on maths and science in schools.
The programme is also referenced in the school element of the new Science and Innovation strategy launched on 17 December.
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/our-plan-for-growth-science-and-innovation
(Schools: We will take action to increase the quantity and quality of STEM teachers through £67 million of new programmes. These will train up to 17,500 maths and physics teachers over the next Parliament, on top of existing plans: adding to the skills of up to 15,000 existing non specialist teachers and recruiting up to 2,500 additional specialist maths and physics teachers).
A significant element is an expansion of Post ITT SKE (which will now be known as Teacher Subject Specialism Training) focused on increasing the skills of non-specialist maths and physics teachers through school-led training. Maths Hub NW3 are leading on this currently with Liverpool Hope University, if you are interested in applying for the Sept 2015 programme please email: lisa.bradshaw@sthelens.org.uk now!
