We would like to invite all primary teachers from across the NW to attend the following programme:

Primary Excellent Maths Teacher Programme

Who is it for?

These sessions are aimed at excellent maths teachers/subject leaders/SLEs/PDLs who have the potential and drive to achieve excellence in maths practice and the ability to develop others.

Sessions include: 7 face-to-face days and materials to support staff in school to deliver 4 gap tasks.

The programme will start in September 2018 and continue at intervals throughout the year.

The NCETM and Maths Hubs are recruiting a third wave of teachers to join the secondary Mastery Specialists programme. This is part of a significant expansion of teaching for mastery work by Maths Hubs in secondary schools across England.

Following the broad format of preceding cohorts, the teachers will complete a three-year professional development programme, with these objectives:

first year (2018-2019): developing mastery approaches in their own classroom

second year (2019-2020): developing mastery approaches across their school’s maths department

third year (2020-2021): supporting two other schools’ maths departments to introduce teaching for mastery.

The teachers will attend five residential training events, run by the NCETM and Maths Hubs, spread across the first two years, the first taking place in the 2018 autumn term. In between, the teachers will work with colleagues from their local Maths Hub and, on an ongoing basis in an online community, share experiences and materials with colleagues from the entire cohort.

Funding: each teacher’s school receives £3000 per year for the first two years, to cover release time of 15 days per year. In the third year, their schools will receive £350 per day for 15 days’ work supporting departments in other schools, making a total of £5250.

Each Maths Hub is looking to recruit three or four teachers in this cohort.

The closing date for applications is 7 June 2018. Only state-funded schools in England are eligible to apply to take part.

An exciting opportunity to join our successful team at NW Maths Hub 3

NW Maths Hub 3 wants to extend and strengthen its work supporting schools in Liverpool and Cheshire. We are therefore now seeking to recruit an Assistant Maths Hub Lead (AMHL) for NW Maths Hub 3 to join our established leadership and management team, initially for 2018/19, after which it will be reviewed.

The Assistant Maths Hub Lead will work as part of the Maths Hub Leadership and Management Team, normally for the equivalent of one day/week, with a particular focus on Liverpool and Cheshire areas.

The AMHL’s school or college will receive a grant of £14,000 from the Maths Hub. This equates to approx. 1- 1 ½ days per week out of school.

Mastery WG schools closing date- Friday 11^th May 2018.

In 2018-19, all Maths Hubs will be running primary mathematics Teaching for Mastery Work Groups led by Mastery Specialists. This programme is for schools who have a commitment to developing a teaching for mastery approach. Although the participation involves two teachers attending events outside of the school it is expected that these two teachers lead development across the whole school. Each Maths Hub is now seeking to recruit schools for Work Groups, each involving six or seven schools. This document gives information about the Work Groups and how schools can apply to be involved. Benefits for participating schools

Participating in the Work Group will provide the following benefits to participant schools:

• High quality support for teacher professional development for the lead teachers, facilitated by the Mastery Specialist
• Support for the head teacher in addressing leadership issues related to teaching for mastery from the Mastery Specialist and the Maths Hub’s leadership
• Opportunity to work closely with other schools also developing teaching for mastery
• No charge for participation and a grant of £1000 to help subsidise teacher release time
• Matched funding of £2000 to support the school in buying text books

Achieving Greater Depth in a Mastery Context

Course Outcomes:

• To explore how children can develop a deep understanding of big mathematical ideas
• To have a range of strategies and ideas for applying skills with greater flexibility within age-related objectives
• To share examples of how children’s outcomes may differ when working at greater depth
